Who are we?

the emancipation games

The Emancipation Games (EG) is an annual event of track and field and other sports which seek to offer People of African descent in Guyana, one more constructive way to prepare themselves for life. The Games will take place under the aegis of the International Decade for People of African Descent Assembly-Guyana (IDPADA-G), as a national sports event, and a contribution from IDPADA-G to the people of Guyana and a legacy to People of African Descent.  
 

Goals of the Emancipation Games

The philosophical aim of the Games is to make the Emancipation Games a brand capable of inspiring Guyanese youth, particularly those of African descent, to explore and develop their physical talents in a manner beneficial to them, and creates the opportunity for youth of African descent to find sustainable alternative routes to improving their lives in a constructive and competitive way. The Games therefore are intended to have four outcomes: 

  • the Games will help identify participants with the potential to represent Guyana at regional and global sporting events.
  • The Games will identify participants who distinguish themselves, through performance and behaviour, to serve as constructive role models for other youth. As such, leaders of the Games will actively promote the successful participants and have them serve as community and national spokespersons of their respective disciplines to motivate their peers to adhere to, or give greater respect to, the philosophy of the Games and societal norms in general.
  • The Games will identify participating entities and institutions and develop constructive relationships with them to support the intellectual and financial growth and development of participants.
  • The Games will reveal the creativity and innovation of participants to form the basis of long-lasting personal and business relationships and advance the economic and financial well-being of participants.
